2021 Initiatives

The Alliance

We are excited to announce the launch of The Alliance, which is Allies Against Abuse’s latest international outreach project. Although we started out locally by partnering with organizations such as the Courageous Women Association to provide COVID-19 assistance to women in need, we have been inspired to expand our initiative beyond more than just temporary relief. After interviewing Abaad MENA, a Lebanese organization, we discovered that one of the prominent issues for struggling women is financial dependence on the male abuser.

Many women who suffer from domestic violence return to the abuser in the best interests of their children. This stems from a variety of root causes - the overwhelmingly major one being lack of education and unemployment. We also recognize that the pandemic and recent economic changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic have only amplified this issue, and these women need our help.

The aim of The Alliance is to provide all-girls schools in impoverished nations with laptops so that they are able to access the education they deserve. In doing so, we have initiated several successful computer science programs for female students in India.

By fostering the next generation of independent women, we ensure that we solve the root cause of domestic violence by equipping these young women the quality education they need for future well-paying jobs in our rapidly changing economy - one that’s now moving faster than ever before.

Supporting Women’s Shelters in California

One of our first and most popular initiatives, this project has received thousands of dollars in funding from third-party corporations as well as in-kind donations from generous sponsors. Allies Against Abuse supports local women’s shelters by providing needed donations for their programs and events as well as their day-to-day necessities, including clothing, toiletries, and baby supplies.

We have partnered with several organizations across the state — our most recent one being the Courageous Women Association, which serves women located in the greater Oakland region. Apart from holding fundraisers and drives, Allies Against Abuse organizes volunteering efforts to further assist these shelters. Women’s shelters are the backbone of domestic violence support in our nation, and it is imperative that we work to ensure that they have the resources they need to continue to thrive and best serve the women in their communities.

Artemis

Artemis is our online feminism magazine that looks to represent women all around the globe. Whether they are of struggle or success, the stories that Artemis tells inspire readers to educate themselves on the cause and take action — whether that be donating, volunteering, or establishing their own initiatives that work to counter domestic violence. Stay on the lookout for our very first issue, coming out soon!
